Chad Cordero shut Caracas down at the ballpark as the Lewisville Fire Ants
beat the Caracas Leones by the count of 3 to 2.
Lewisville brought 2 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 7th inning
when they had 3 base hits. Michael Cuddyer led off and started the rally
when he hit a single. Gary Bennett stepped up to the plate and he lashed a
single. Tike Redman then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Julio Lugo came up and
he worked the squeeze play to perfection knocking in a run. Michael Young
came to the plate and banged out a single scoring the final run of the
inning. Cordero pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 12th save.
The win was credited to Jaime Cerda(2-2) who went 1 inning allowing no runs.
John Halama(2-3) absorbed the loss in relief. He gave up 3 hits and no walks
in 2 innings.
